diaryring rules

2003-05-17

because i've had some trouble with my diaryrings lately, i decided to put up some rules here now for members and those who want to become one here:

1) the code MUST be put up as soon as possible. you can do so right after joining. i give you three days, though because i am nice.

2) when you change your template, remember to take the code with you unless you have them on a special site. in that case, remember to add the link.

3) if you want to leave the ring, do so on the site. each ring site on diaryland has a link that says "leave ring". do so and you'll be automatically removed from the list. DON'T just delete the code as that'll destroy the ring and therefore the whole purpose of diaryrings.

4) no locked diaries. for the same reason as above. there's no need to join diaryrings if random people are not allowed to read your diary.

5) you are allowed to change the code. many people do that nowadays and i don't feel like telling them off for it. just make sure all the important links are included.

6) i very rarely really read what members write in their entries. if, however, i decide to do so and i find something i think is offensive or against the law or something like that, i take the right to remove the members from the list. i don't want to sound arrogant here, i just thought i'd point it out.

also, i should mention that i check the members' diaries regularly. if i can't find the code i'll let you know and give you some time to put it up. if you don't do this, you'll be removed. locked diaries and people who don't have the code up but haven't any way to contact them on the site get removed immediately.

i'd like to add a few things that aren't necessarily rules (but only because throwing people off my rings for them would make me feel like a nazi...) but i'd still like to point out. i think they could be helpful for new diaryland members, so yeah...

(*) i know joining diaryrings is fun. i'm a member of at least 7 million rings myself. but if you're gonna join more than a dozen or so, you should think about organising them a little...like category-wise or alphabetical or whatever. you can even put them in different entries. just putting them all in one entry or sticking them on your layout will result in a page that takes about a century to load which sucks.

(*) you probably got a nice layout and maybe you even made it yourself. do you really want to ruin it by putting millions of ring codes right up there? ha! think about it.
